Can This Really Be Happening?

Looks like it's another WTF day in America

I was going to write something fun and cute for today. It was about videos and books and the language we use now.

And then the Supreme Court news leaked.

Now all I can do is sit here and think how American women are about to lose a major right — the right to control your own body — and everything else seems stupid in comparison.

I can’t even believe we’re here. And that we’re about to let 5 strangers in black robes change the fate of millions of American women for generations.

How are we ever going to look our daughters and granddaughters in the eyes and say, “Oh, sorry. You have fewer rights than we did. We let them take yours away.”

And I mean rights. That’s not a typo.

Because after this one is gone, there will likely be more to come … or go, actually. That’s the way the second-class cookie crumbles.

There won’t be any sudden blooming of rights and opportunity. We started down this slope in the past few years and I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re about to accelerate again.

Once they’ve come for the women’s rights, you know my gay rights are next in the crosshairs.

And I know what it’s like to be a second-class citizen. Trust me, you won’t like it.

But some small part of me holds out hope.

It’s a tiny hope … but it’s there.

And I think if women walked out of their jobs and responsibilities on one specific day to protest en masse in every corner of America about this loss of rights — if there was a general strike — and if the men who love us and believe in our basic human rights and American rights, joined us — we could change this course. Or at least start to.

But we have to do something … and then we have to keep going.

Women deserve to have the same freedom as American men. And so do our daughters and granddaughters.

But we’re not going to hold the line if all we ever do is give up.
